1v1 Power Shooting

shooting line which is 15m from the goals. 2 gates on the shooting line Organisation Player 1 dribbles the ball towards one of the two gates. Once player 1 has crossed the shooting line player 2 can attack the goals. Once player 1 has defended the goals he then joins the back of the queue. Look for!

Coaching points
  • Tempo - concentration - look up before striking the ball. Questions to ask?
  • What is the best goal to attack and why?
  • How close do you want to be to the goal to shoot?
  • How should you respond once you have taken your shot?

  • Increase pressure / reduce space / add direction.
Regressions
  • Remove opposition or enlarge the area to restore success.

Drill 2 — develop 1v1 Power Shooting

Add light opposition or a constraint so players must solve 1v1 power shooting under pressure. Rotate roles often.

Organisation: SSG pitch with clear scoring / constraints linked to the theme.

Coaching points
  • Reward the theme with the scoring system.
  • Protect transition moments both ways.
  • Use guided discovery questions in natural stoppages.

  • Shrink space / add a live defender.

  • Unopposed patterns first.

Organisation: Multiple mini-pitches if needed so everyone plays.

  • Help a teammate who is stuck.
  • Celebrate effort, not only goals.

  • Remove the condition when the theme is secure.
